Broke and disillusioned after art school, John-Calum Macleod returns by ferry to his home on Harris, where little has changed but him. Back in the windswept croft of his youth, he's caught between his father John - a sheep farmer, weaver, and devout Presbyterian - and his Glaswegian grandmother Ella, long at odds with her son-in-law.
